About Steven Vornea
Steven Vornea, CEO and Entrepreneur, built his career in real estate finance on a solid foundation of hard work and merit. From humble origins, Steven grew up in Bethpage, NY with his immigrant parents and sister – a family of limited means and unlimited determination. Over the years, through multiple successes, Steven garnered experience which lead him to a unique niche in real estate finance, combining traditional and non-traditional lending with innovative investment solutions, while leveraging his mortgage lending and equity investment achievements.
At the age of 11, Steven Vornea cut his teeth working at the local markets and before long, at 12 he was running his own landscaping business. He brought his entrepreneurial spirit to the world of finance 6 years later when he took a position as a back office clerk. Always learning on the job, Steven gained enough experience in finance, particularly how to learn about the industry to co-founded FinancialCampus.com in 1998 – the first online learning platform in the field of financial services. In the role of Chief Executive Officer, he was a key player in the company’s growth and nationwide product rollout. His vision for this customized learning platform resulted in the participation of employees from firms such as John Hancock, NYLife AXA and Farmers in hundreds of accredited online courses. FinancialCampus.com was eventually acquired by Thompson Financial and is still going strong today.
Steven Vornea’s evolution into commercial real estate was a natural transition given his broad financial services successes and his proven technical knowledge. For the next 14 years, he co-founded multiple firms specializing in structured capital solutions for commercial real estate. Over the years, he has developed the types of relationships with institutional investors and lenders which has made him one of the most sought after in his field. Recently, Steven worked with Thor Equities to structure a transaction between Treeline Companies and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church. Teaming up with Thor Equities, he masterminded a complex transaction which enabled the church to convert some of their real estate holdings to cash without losing any ministry functionality. Simultaneously, Steven assisted the church to recapitalize its remaining debt whereby reducing interest costs cost by over 50%. The transaction ultimately closed in 2015 for over $150M.
Approaching every single real estate project using “the art of the possible,” Steven Vornea had many financial real estate successes in 2015 alone. Among these were the $125 M recapitalization of a brand new 270 key Chelsea Marriott hotel in midtown; the provision of the debt and equity for The Showcard, a boutique hotel in the heart of Times Square and securing capital for the acquisition of over 2500 student housing beds for the University of North Carolina and the University of Alabama with the value of $200M.
A true son of NY, Steven still lives in New York City where he enjoys his family and friends, including his two dogs, in his free time. He can also be found biking around the city or skiing or swimming. Somehow, he still manages to make time to devote his remaining energy spending time at the Brooklyn Tabernacle.
